Academic Honesty Policy
ANTONIAN COLLEGE PREPARATORY HIGH SCHOOL ACADEMIC HONESTY - CHEATING Cheating in any form is dishonest and contrary to the philosophy of Antonian College Preparatory High School. It is considered a very serious matter and the following guidelines will be used to deter any such dishonest activity. Specifically, Plagiarism in any form is considered a very serious matter and is defined as passing off, as one’s own, idea or words of another; and/or referring to others works without citation. Cheating includes copying homework, using "Cheat Sheets", submitting work not being the student’s own, forging signatures, plagiarism, or gaining knowledge of a test prior to taking of the test. Cheating in testing situations and in academic assignments is not acceptable behavior and will be treated as such. The teacher will recommend a grade of zero to the Dean of Students for the student who cheats with respect to quiz, homework, assignments, etc. The student will be assigned 2 afternoons in ASD, 2 Saturday Schools, be placed on disciplinary probation and be subject to dismissal on the second offense. Cheating on tests or semester exams or major research projects will result in a grade of zero in the examination be assigned 2 afternoons in ASD, 2 Saturday Schools, possible failure of the course, be placed on disciplinary probation and be subject to dismissal on the second offense. A teacher suspecting a student of cheating will prepare a referral to the Dean of Students. The Dean of Students will then conduct an investigation including speaking to the student. If some evidence exists that the student may have cheated, the Dean of Students will suspend the student. A conference involving the parent(s) and the student will be scheduled with the Disciplinary Committee within 48 hours, excluding weekends, of the incident. A student suspected of cheating will appear with parents and the teacher before the Disciplinary Committee to explain himself/herself and give the Committee the opportunity to understand the fullness of the matter. The Disciplinary Committee will take the matter under advisement following the conference and make a decision within 24 hours of the Conference. The student shall remain at home pending the final outcome in the matter. Parents wishing to take further steps shall adhere to the stated grievance procedures outlined in this handbook. Students who cheat on the second offence are subject to expulsion. In addition to the automatic consequences, if extenuating circumstances exist, the case may warrant additional consequences but not limited to: A. Ineligibility for all academic honors/awards in all subjects and honor roll for the year. B. Ineligibility to participate in extracurricular activities for 30 calendar days. C. Ineligibility for exemption from final exams. D. Disciplinary probation for the remainder of the school year. E. Receipt of no credit for the semester in the course and a retake in the summer. | |||
