A Letter to the Principal (5.28.2007
12:45:00:00)
The other night at graduation you apologized for not knowing all of the
seniors by name. My son falls into that category. He was a student that I
thought was mainly in the shadows, off of everyone's radar screen. I even
thought that with his friends. For four years we encouraged this shy young
man to invite his friends over. His excuse was usually, we live too far
away. As the year was winding down, I told him you really are going to miss
your friends, I once again asked him to invite them over. A few days ago, he
finally told us to expect a few friends. He no longer is the shy boy we sent
to you as a freshman.
I was excited that he told us to expect at least 10 graduates. We all
cleaned and I started the pit at 2 in the morning and we all happily
prepared this feast. When the kids came into our home I was greatly
surprised at the intelligence and courtesy of these young men and women. I
was honored to have so many people in my home that were heading off to such
prestigious universities. This was such a diverse group with outstanding
manners and great conversationalists. The kids sat around the dining room
table and talked for a couple of hours. They shot pool and played games and
even left at a respectable hour. My biggest observation of the evening was
the quality friendship of this group. To me these kids were far beyond the
typical superficial teenage friends.
I really wanted to once again let you know that the
influence Antonian has on its graduates is well worth the sacrifice we
parents make. We ended up with about 15 Antonian graduates, all of which
would make you and the Antonian staff proud. Please don't apologize for not
knowing all the students by name, take credit for yourself and the Antonian
staff - for having such a great influence on these graduates. CLICK FOR PICTURES
