. WELCOME TO THE I. H. S. WEBPAGE I. H. S. stands for In His Service. This group of parents, primarily, was established as an off-shoot of a strategic planning process that began during the last school year. The Mission of the I. H. S. group is to Our group's purpose is to support the mission of ACP (Antonian College Preparatory High School). We are a group of parents, teachers, staff and supporters of ACP who are dedicated to the students’ faith formation, specifically in the areas of knowledge, community, values and worship. We offer ourselves for projects and activities involving Christian growth and spiritual development. Goals: 1. Knowledge-Motivate a lifestyle of spiritual and intellectual learning with the integration of a sound knowledge of the Catholic faith. 2. Community-Enrich spiritual growth by developing gifts and talents in charity, service, and involvement with each other and the community. 3. Values-Promote the gospel values of Jesus Christ as taught by Sacred Scripture and Tradition of the Catholic Church to enable moral decisions and Christian character. 4. Worship-Provide ongoing opportunities to experience and actively participate in Eucharistic celebrations and Para-liturgical devotions, which lead to an encounter with the Triune God through Jesus Christ our Risen Lord. Next Meeting is April 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Antonian MARCH 6, 2003 MEETING Members present: Ofelia Jenkins, Lora Matlock, David Mayorga, Cathy Tynan, Michele Watson-Williams, Cecilia Von Bertrab
Began in prayer.
Cathy reported on her findings for various retreat
site possibilities: Oblate can accommadate our group, but is very
expensive if we have to move indoors in case of rain. $12-15 per head
and we must take our meal from them instead of providing it ourselves as
we have done with the other retreats.
St Joseph at Honeycreek-possibly for the
Freshmen. Beautiful grounds, outside stations of the cross,
gym.
Will follow up.
Holy Spirit Retreat Center-can't
accommodate our large numbers
Moye @ Castroville-still checking
Cordi Marian-worked well for the
Sophomores. Would like to continue using annually.
St Mary's University-great possibility for
the Juniors. Cathy will check with them and UIW.
OLLU-for the Seniors
seems to be working well.
St Paul's Auditorium, Ballroom-not much
grounds.
We need to get a list of retreat-masters
-Sr. Mary Fagin, SMYRT-which is a youth led team from
Texas A&M University that puts on middle and high school retreats. Very
good.
Discussed if one of the IHS members might drop in on the senior retreat
March 27 to see what is
covered-particularly the spiritual
aspects. Need a contact person at OLLU to get the retreat agenda.
Second reading of the Mission Statement.
We need to check with the Tipps on the Service hour sheet-Lora will follow up on that.
Discussed Extraordinary Ministers
again-requirements , etc. Cecilia will check if they need additonal
training to serve at the school Mass, must
be confirmed, etc.
Discussed school mass:
Non-Catholic students' reception of the
Eucharist
Students in-and-out during Mass,
especially during the Eucharistic Prayer
Possible seating by homeroom, with
teachers seated with their class
Check on volume of guitar-it is usually
too loud, drowning out choir
Possibly offer service hours for
participating in choir and the Mass. Have an outside sponsor and
practice for the choir.
Michele is interested in getting the students
involved in Perpetual Adoration.
Discussed how to encourage youth
in Adoration-explaining it to them, personalizing it for them.
Perhaps get the Theology classes
involved.
Perhaps once a month expose the Blessed
Sacrament
Questioned when the dates for events for the next
school year are secured on the calendar. Lora will meet with Dr. Saenz
to discuss many of the above mentioned questions and will report results
at the next meeting.
Next meeting scheduled for April 3.
Closed with reflection/prayer.
Respectfully submitted by Lora Matlock.
Minutes for February 13, 2003
Members present: Lora Matlock, David Mayorga, Margaret Tipps, and Cathy Tynan. The meeting began with a prayer led by David.Read an email from Mary Jane Fox. She and Deacon Tom Fox just returned from the Holy Land and prayed for us, IHS while there. Worked on the Mission statement-listed our goals, which are detailed on the strategic plan- Knowledge, Values, Worship and Community.
Discussed the possibility of having a
website connected with Antonian so our information would be
We need procedures to present to Dr.
Saenz. Keep the procedures simple. Get our objectives from the strategic
plan. Elect Officers, probably a president, vice-president,
secretary, parliamentarian, treasurer, and a teacher rep. designated by
Dr. Saenz
Robert's Rules for Order
Committee Chairs: Knowledge, Values,
Worship, Community. Divide projects and duties
Discussed the need to establish meeting
dates in advance on some sort of schedule
Discussed the music at the school
masses-could we get the school band for masses?
Discussed the Gospel meditation at the
school masses: Perhaps ask the drama department for assistance. Try to
involve the students in the planning and assisting of mass-perhaps by
Theology class.
Discussed changing the auditorium to
make it feel more Church-like.Checking on the banner poles with Patricia
Valadez.
Discussed the Senior Retreat. It will be
held March 13. Do we have facilitators? Do they need help?
Talked about getting off-campus sites
for all of the class retreats for next year. Need someplace that is large
enough to accommodate the students in case of rain. Mentioned the
following sites: Castroville, Oblate, Holy Spirit Retreat Center, Cordi
Marian,OLLU, St Mary's
Cathy will check on Oblate and Holy
Spirit for the freshmen and sophomores.
Hope to get a college site for the
juniors, which we already do for the seniors.
Discussed the importance of having
different facilitators for each retreat-less repetition
Perhaps have college kids as
facilitators if available
Ended with a short prayer.
