Our mission as a community is to seek Christ in a united pursuit while serving others with compassion and love through provision and awareness.
The Africa Awareness Club is a group of over 80 students coming together to efficiently learn of the foreign issues of Africa such as destitution, preventable diseases like Malaria, HIV/AIDS, child casualties, and extreme abundance of orphans. The club gathers information from speakers who have lived in or been to Africa. Students use critical thinking and problem solving skills to discover realistic solutions to solve world problems while exercising their spiritual beings, using compassion and love for others just as Jesus did.
During the 2010-2011 school year the Africa Awareness Club held a fundraiser called the “Chain of Love”. They set a goal of $6,120 to support 17 orphaned children in Kenya, Africa. The proposed amount would supply for food, clean water, clothing, education, shelter and vaccination for the entirety of one year. The school held a two-week fundraising period. For every dollar donated by students and outside community, a domino was accumulated into the club. After the two-week fundraising period, the club placed the dominoes in a chain of designs on the gym floor. With the student body watching to celebrate their success, the first domino was knocked over. The chain of dominoes fell to symbolize how one person can make a difference. Not only did the club reach their goal of $6,120, but surpassed it with a total of $8,500. The money raised was successfully given to the orphanage in September 2011. The club plans on carrying on this fundraiser annually.
