CPS Energy SAFE and Mentoring Program for Juniors

  1. Requirements: Have a B average or higher, Rank in the top 20% of the class. Check your ranking with your counselor to determine eligibility. Demonstrate an interest in seeking a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math fields as well as, Business, Accounting or Computer fields in a four year university.
  2. Complete application, essay and parent consent form. For more information go to www.CPSEnergy.com Keyword SAFE and familiarize yourself with requirements. The program consists of fulltime paid work experience with a professional mentor in their field of interest for two summers and a $5.000 scholarship to be used towards a four year university.   3. Have your school counselor compile GPA, class ranking, list of current and completed high school courses and attendance record to turn in with your application

Summer Programs

Barnard College: Juniors and Seniors: Liberal Arts Program: the Liberal Arts Intensive Program (June 24-June 29) and a Young Women’s Leadership Institute is July 8-July 15 Tuition is and fees vary. Deadline is May 7, 2012 http://barnard.edu/precollege

Boston University: Promys 2012 will run from July 1 to August 11. Cost $ 2,700 for parents(the full per student cost is almost 2.5 times this). Books may cost an additional $100. Need- based financial aid is available. PROMYS: A program in Mathematics for Young Scientists. It is a intensive experience in creative mathematical exploration to approximately 75 ambitious high school students with an exceptionally strong interest in mathematics. Admission is on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until May 15, 2012. Apply as soon as possible.

Junior State of America: Please contact Mrs. Ramirez, if you like to be nominated by April 16, 2012 . Applications must be submitted by April 27, 2012. This program gives students the opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, study with university professors and gain familiarity with the college living experience. Location is Georgetown University. Cost various.

Miami University: Junior Scholars Program, a six week residential experience for juniors from across the U.S. and around the world. Dates June: 24- August 3, 2012. San Antonio College: Edge Program- Early Development of General Engineering (with an emphasis on Robotics.) Dates: June 11, 2012-July 19, 2012. Cost: $25.00 Deadline to Apply April 30, 2012. Texas Christian University For Sophomores and Juniors TACAC Camp College 2012 Dates: June 3-6. Students will identify schools that match interests and needs, write an application essay and create a resume, navigate the financial aid maze, learn tips, techniques, and strategies for the ACT/SAT and attend college presentations and a college fair. Texas Lutheran University The Lonestar Scholars Academy is a two-week residential program that offers university-level coursework for transferable college credit. Requirements: Must have taken the PSAT and rank in the top half of the class and receive a strong recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor. United States Naval Academy: Summer Seminar Program is for young men and women who have completed their junior year in high school. Dates: Session One-June 2-7, Session Two- June 9-14, Session Three- June 16-June21. Cost: $350.00 which pays for room and board, as well as a variety of materials.
